Craft Creative Workshops @ Leaf

Whilst doing some research on twitter the other day I discovered a fabulous Liverpool based company who offer “alternative social experiences” and are currently running a variety of creative workshops held in stylish locations across Liverpool City Centre. They keep an eye on the season’s hottest trends and teach us how to make it ourselves. Their aim is to bring craft into the 21st century and recycle unwanted items into must have accessories.

Craft Creative’s next event on Wednesday 27th July will see them teaming up with Liverpool company Alula jewellery for a jewellery making workshop where you can design and make your own beautiful unique pieces of jewellery. In this workshop the lovely expert from http://www.alulajewellery.co.uk/ will teach you different techniques to create earrings and a very 'on trend' suede headband (see picture). You can choose from a variety of material, including beads and feathers. You may also take any broken jewellery you may have and they’ll help you experience upclycling, repairing and reviving old jewellery to incorporate it into your designs.

The event will be held at one of discofashionarts favourite Liverpool hangouts Leaf on Bold Street, which just adds to the treat….

All materials included plus an instruction for you to take home. No previous jewellery making experience required.

Most of the pieces are made from ‘cruelty free’ feathers which are naturally malted. Alua uses a variety of feathers from birds including Peacock, Guinea Fowl, Magpie, Jay, Mallard, Golden Pheasant, Lady Amherst's Pheasant, Common Pheasant, Silver Pheasant, Flamingo, African Grey Parrot, Blue-and-yellow Macaw,Falcon, Eagle Owl, Scarlet Macaw, Amazon Parrot, Moluccan Cockatoo, Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo and Parakeet. As you can see from the pictures below the pieces are fab, so get booking and see what you can make!

A week in pics

Waiting for "Watch the Throne" to be released... my small obsession with everything that is Jay Z and Kanye and Ricardo Tisci.  Some bits I wouldn't mind picking up from ASOS and Topshop (them purple court shoes will be purchased soon) Prarda Stripes and Fur, Anjelica Blick my newest blog crush, Ernesto Muniz's exhibition in Nic Corkes Gallery in Aigburth - worth a visit, my Mcqueen vest purchased in Glasto and hasn't been off my back, some of my bracelet choices and finally the cupcakes that got me through a long week in the office.

Couture Autumn 2012 Review (best bits and a little rant)

I'll make one thing clear straight off the bat, I'm not going to discuss Dior.  I in no way agree with Galliano's actions over the past year, he's lost the plot, however he was a genius and made Dior one of the couture houses I used to study growing up, maybe not every Dior collection but always the couture shows.  His clothes were amazing.  The collection that went down the runway last week for Dior was not.  I found the whole collection from Bill Gaytten ...... Awful! Galliano understood women better then we understand ourselves sometimes, the fit, the decadence, the AMAZING dresses... Gaytten's collection would not attract any women I know!

I'll leave the negativity there and move swiftly on to the matter in hand....

Armani Prive didn't really entertain me either! The oriental inspired collection did feature some lovely romantic floral prints, fabulous Japanese infused tailoring, sharp silhouettes and stunning head pieces however I felt like I had seen the whole thing before and for me that just ain't couture.

Then there's Karl!  Chanel took inspiration from and gave tribute to Mademoiselle Coco Chanel and her 1920's elegance.  There were the famous tweed jackets but double breasted and slightly over sized, longer length skirts and some very edgy dresses with traditional Chanel accessories.  Classical elegance with a Karl Twist. Fabulous.

Givenchy was equally as exciting, Ricardo Tisci, my favourite at Paris Couture week for the past two seasons surpassed himself again.  Inspired by the bird of Paradise, (the mythical bird and the flower apparently) the collection was simply gorgeous and I hope to see alot more of it on the red carpet!  There were bright whites and natural shades, ethereal tulle, sequins and ostrich feathers... stunning.

Another one of my favourites Ellie Saab simply took my breath away.  Angelic gowns and beading that looked like it took 100 years to stitch!

Finally Jean Paul Gautiers 62 Piece strong collection had a very strong sexual undertone, just what we love Jean for! There was drama and glamour and some fabulous pieces.  I'm am afraid though that Jean Paul is the only designer left in Paris Couture that we can look to int he future for fun without ridiculouse, high drama and for want of a better word Pazaz! 

I will simply end by saying Paris Couture week missed Mr Galliano ... not matter how much he didn't deserve to be there.

Glasto 2011.... sorry they're late!

A few of the pretty little houses in Sidcot on the way to the hotel, some of the out houses and old stained windows were fabulous!

The grounds of the hotel we stayed in on the tuesday night were soo beautiful and peacefull, it was my last peace and quiet for 6 days, it was my last night of hot water, comfy beds and well civilisation!

Been away for a while!

Sorry if I haven't blogged for a while, I have been a busy girl. I have been creating and launching a beauty website for a liverpool salon Crystal Sun and Beauty which went live last month!

Then I was all set for a little R&R. I took a two week holiday from the rat race and had quite the musical vaca. First me and the boy went to the Kings of Leon concert in the Lancashire County Cricket Club which was .......amazing. Some of the manchester press / critics said they didn't like how the band had gone all main stream and swapped their checked shirts and skinies for Dior suits.........I however appreciated the Dior suits (especially on Jared!) and think the band are just as cool as ever. A great time was had by all!

Then after some overdue chilling with the girls it was onto Worthy Farm for the 5 day musical extravaganza that is Glastonbury! What a place.... I was awash with hip young things wearing some of the most incredible outfits. Uniform of choice seemed to be denim cutoffs in various colours, Hunters with over the knee socks, various band and vintage tee's and for the first too days Barbours and vintage rain jackets! (my shelter of choice was a small yellow fisherman esque mac with white ties i purchased from a vintage shop on sight). I could go on for hours and hours about Glasto but i'll save that for a future post, there is just too much to write about now, plus the details are still abit hazy! so for now here are some shots!
