Layering, Textures and Prints oh my!

Its our favourite time of the year, layering time! When its freezing outside there is nothing better than throwing loads of comfy and sumptuous layers on to warden off the winter blues.

And this season its all about layering different textures and prints for a Jenna Lyons Esq effect.  Well, we all know J Crew's creative director is the Queen of chic and modern layering.

So here are my picks of the best Autumn / Winter pieces from both the high street and designer stores but all available on the Internet or right here in Liverpool for you to layer up to sartorial perfection and I've sorted them into different textures. Remember mixing textures as well as clashing prints will give you that high fashion look whilst wearing high street pieces.  Now all you have to do is layer away.

Stockists and prices coming shortly....

Weekly Roundup!

Well its been a busy old week here at the blog again so apologies for the lack of posts, I promise to resume normal service next week guys and doll faces.

As I haven't really delved into the glorious world of Liverpool fashion or the rest of the sartorial world this week, due to my extreme diary over the last seven days, I thought I would bring you a big, gorgeous, glossy, weekly roundup of all the best fashion news in our wonderful city and beyond.

Tomorrow I will share my tips for dressing in our gloriously pretty city this winter and discuss my favourite time of the year.... layering time.. and this year its all about layering different textures and prints for a Jenna Lyons esque effect, so tune back in tomorrow and see how I think you can achieve the look with pieces that you can find right here on our doorstep.

For now though lets talk about the lovely Mrs Beckham donating pieces of her extraordinary and vast personal wardrobe to the Red Cross in Kensington, London for them to sell in aid of the Typhoon Haiyan victims in the philippines.

We thought this was a fabulous way to help and it inspired me to do the same, I am currently in the midst of a massive clear out which to be honest was greatly needed and when I find my way out of this pile I intend to take it all to my local store to help their fund for this terrible disaster.  Why don't you do the same! You can find a list of liverpool stores here Red Cross's in Liverpool. I'll bet my last pound that there are plenty of you, like me, who likes to hoard old fashion favourites, you just don't want to give up. Well this is an ideal time to break that habit and at the same time make space in your wardrobe for more fashionable finds! See its win, win.

Whilst on the subject of amazing women's wear designers, next it's on to our very own Liverpool based womenswear designer, Kirsty Doyle, who this week shared a sneak peek of her up and coming Spring Summer 2014 Lingerie Collection with her social media fans and my lordy its beautiful! If this is just a taster then I am super excited to see the full collection.

This robe is gorgeous, sod the annual, Marks and Sparks cosy efforts I and many others usually buy for Christmas! This year I want to be wearing this under the mistletoe! Note to SANTA, please make Kirsty release this collection before yule time, we promise we've been good!

This week the blog has also been talking to two leading fashion institutions, Liverpool John Moore's acclaimed Fashion Department and the 3rd year BA (HONS) Fashion Promotion and Styling class from the University of Central Lancashire.  I told you we've been busy.

Inspired by the iconic V&A Club to Catwalk exhibition in London, the students of the 3rd year BA (HONS) Fashion Promotion and Styling class are channeling the group styling of the 1980’s and referencing the Blitz kids in their own fashion production, reworking donated garments for a display of creative styling in a one off charitable event.

The production will showcase the incredible styling and creative skills of the students who are also working together on every aspect of the fashion Show from show production to hospitality.

All of the clothes have been donated by St Catherine’s Hospice which the students have up cycled, reworked and customized for the production.  The local Fishergate Shopping Centre have also gifted prizes and incentives for the guests.  It promises to be both an interesting and amazing event.

Myself and the guys from the blog will be attending the event this Wednesday and promise to deliver a full report.  The Ba (Hons) Fashion Promotion with styling course at The University of Central Lancashire is one of a few of its kind in the country so for those of you readers who are on the lookout for a different and modern fashion course to embark upon, this may be of great interest to you so look out for the artice next week.

We also spoke to our lovely friends over at Matalan this week who have teamed up with the acclaimed fashion department at Liverpool John Moores University for the first ever young designer project.  They gave us a sneaky peak of the collections of the two winners  Kerry Crone and Imogen Stubbs who were given the amazing opportunity to design an exclusive line for Matalan that is set to be sold online and in the new central Liverpool store.  Heres a sneaky peak but see the Matalan website for more details. www.matalan.co.uk

Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of JFK's untimely and tragic death and all the footage only solidified my opinion on one of the greatest fashion inspirations of all time, Jackie Kennedy Onassis.  After seeing all the footage of the first ladies impeccable, American, classical style we decided to delve into the gigantic online archive of Jackie O images and picked out our favourite looks to share with you.

I mean, what good scouse fashionista worth her salt would be without a pair of gigantic sunglasses, the kind that will chic up any dastardly hangover.

I also had an email that I wanted to share with you this week from the dudes at Fluorescent PR and Clique Magazine, the world's first totally shoppable fashion and beauty magazine with some exciting news about their launch in Liverpool, here's the details.

Exciting stuff huh? The revolutionary new magazine is set to launch on 25th November, sign up here and also look out for the KATIE EARY AND CLIQUE MAGAZINE LAUNCH ACCESSORIES RANGE AT PHONES4U which is being launched in line with the magazine.  Why not have a little look, it looks pretty good!

Finally next week I will be interviewed during the Cavern Walks style master class which I am very, very excited about.  If you can, try and make it down for an audience with myself and the biggest and brightest of Liverpools fashion scene for an evening of winter fashion inspiration.  All the details are in the post below.

We'll be back tomorrow with our layering for winter 2013 article but for now have a fabulous saturday whatever you may be doing fashion bunnies.
