2013 a year of fashion yay's and nay's but what's still hot in 2014

2013 certainly was a year of fashion hit and misses. With Kenzo Jumpers and Givenchy T-Shirts cropping up everywhere,
the reinvention of the Grunge Girl (think Marc Jacobs for Perry Ellis circa 1992 with a evening alter ego!) and the year the trainer became passable for fashion once again.(Amen)

It was all in all a good year, so here without further a do is my review of what was fashion in 2013, basically my thoughts on those all important trends from last year that we should be dragging into 2014.

1.

The high street and catwalks were awash with Pepto Bismal Pink coats - making it the get it now trend of 2013! I must admit my favourite high street version was the one from Primark above! At £32 it was one of the more cheaper options but was one of the most fashionable cuts. I actually managed to get my hands on one in the sale for £20! BARGAIN! I will definitely be rocking mine with ripped denim and grey ensembles in spring.

2013 was definitely the year of the selfie! It was the year we let go of our inhibitions, started to love ourselves a bit more and when narcissism knew no bounds. We all got involved, admittedly some more than others but we were all definitely guilty of a selfie this year in one shape or another and they definitely aren't going anywhere.
Here's some of my favourite's (I love Leandra Medine she just doesn't give a s**t) including some of my own drunk efforts (I tend to like a selfie after a cocktail or two! Come on who doesn't.)

And if all that isn't enough this year the word selfie was even included in the dictionary!

selfie

Line breaks: selfie
Pronunciation: /ˈsɛlfi

NOUN (PLURAL SELFIES)

  • a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website:occasional selfies are acceptable, but posting a new picture of yourself every day isn’t necessary

Origin

early 21st century: from self + -ie.

"SHROBBING"

Putting your arms in your sleeves is so last season. Coats and all outerwear should have been worn elegantly draped over the shoulders in 2013 and this should definitely be continued in 2014.

All a little bit Blair Waldorf, granted but elegant all the same especially worn with multiple layers.

2013 certainly did smell like Teen Spirit. Heidi Slimane at Saint Laurent declared GRUNGE was back this year and he may have been the instigator but he certainly wasn't alone. Rodarte, Acne and Nina Ricci all joined in and championed the Seattle born trend.  Oh and there was the amazing “LA FIÈVRE GRUNGE” editorial BY MERT ALAS & MARCUS PIGGOTT FOR VOGUE PARIS SEPTEMBER 2013.  Amazing.

All the staples are back and ready to be taken into Spring 2014. PLAID, ripped jeans, boyfriend jumpers and beanies so pull them Dr Martens on and stride safely into a fashionable 2014.

TRAINERS

2013 was the year the trainer made a fashionable come back! Nikes of all variety were seen on the feet of every hipster and fashionista from here to London, Chanel's 2013 Spring Summer couture show had models in the most fairytale trainers you've ever seen and lets face it Susie Bubble rocked hers with everything from Acne to Meadham Kirchoff, the girl certainly does make a pair of trainers look high end.

And I don't think that trainers are going anywhere soon, which I am greatly thankful for as I have become quite accustom to my Roshies! So all that said, here is my pick of the best trainers for 2014.

Adidas by Stella McCartney - Leucippus Adipure Trainers available at Flannels - £120
Balenciaga Multi Coloured printed fabric and Blue Suede Trainers available at Cricket - £325

And for those of you with Money to burn there are these babies from Chanel Haute Couture which reportedly can be yours for approx 3000 euros!

These little numbers were my personal favourite in 2013 and again this year, Givency Studded High Tops from Cricket - £530

Lanvin Python Print Trainers available at Flannels - £570

And finally good old all black Nike Huarache, you cant fail with these little numbers. Available in multiple stores in Liverpool One including Nike, JD Sports and Office. Around £90

Ok so sweatshirts have been back on the fashion radar for more than a year but 2013 was the year they become even more
fashion.

The 2013 Spring/Summer, Autumn Winter, Resort and Cruise collections all had offerings of this modern fashion staple and the high street have been quick to follow.

The more I think of it the more I believe that isn't just a trend, this is the fashion houses realising that the sweatshirt is a staple piece of most peoples everyday wardrobe and with that a wanting to take it to places no sweatshirt has been before, the upper echelons of sartorial sophistication.

Here are the ones I think will reach cult status in 2014.

CHRISTOPHER KANE

CARVEN

GIVENCHY

KENZO

MARY KATRANTZOU

SAINT LAURENT

STELLA MCCARTNEY
