An Editorial Review

Well January is over and everyone is starting to feel a little less skint, a little better dressed from the sales, a little more svelte after the bloat fest that is Christmas and well just a little more rosy! Therefore I will take this as my opportunity to wish you a fabulous 2013.

I know it seems a bit late but I hate January.. its all penny pinching and exercise so I'm saying it now!  Better late than never! One thing I do love about new year is being able to review the past year in fashion editorials.

HERE ARE MY FAVOURITES!

Self Service Magazine - Spring Summer 2012
This editorial was simply called photography by Alasdair McLellan and that is what it was!  Styled by Suzanne Koller and staring Cara Delvigne, Anouk De Heer and Bambi Northwood Blythe to name a few.  Pretty and subtle, this editorial really proves how simple works and sometimes all you need is a striking face and the clothes.

T Magazine - Winter 2012
The in crowd shot by Tyrone Lebon, styled by Sara Moonves with models Hannnah Holman and Katie King among others.  This editorial caught my eye because it reminded me of 'Mean Girls' only with better clothes.  Wouldn't you like to be in a gang with a uniform of McQueen and Adidas sneaks!

Interview Magazine - October / November 2012
Brad Pitt shot by Stephen Klein and styled by Ludivine Poblanc.  This is Brad like we have never seen before, a scruffy hippy and a John Walters type gentleman, all very intriguing.  It also confirms that in any disguise, Pitt is fit! (sorry couldn't help it).

Vogue Paris - May 2012
Serie Noire - shot by Glen Luchford and styled by Marie Chaix.  Maigosia Bela takes us back to the 80's in this editorial and when mixed with the dark edge of Vogue Paris, it makes us want to go back too.  Everyone should be rocking a one piece this summer, even if they do give you hideous tan lines, do it for the love of fashion.

Vogue UK - April 2012
When you think young the world belongs to you!  The legendary Bruce Webber teamed with stylist Joe McKenna reminds us how fabulous being young really is.  This editorial reminds us of fashions ever lasting love affair with youth.  Hot summer nights, fly away hair and a romp around a farm, makes us here at discofashionart want a summer road trip with all our friends and fabulous clothes.

Vogue Italia Couture Supplement - March 2012

A lady in spring shot by Paolo Reversi and styled by Panos Yiapanis with model Marie Piovesan. I love this because Reversis melancholy photographs teamed with Yiapanis' ornate styling creates an erie, alternative couture wonderland and also kind of reminds me of what a head mistress in a fashion school would look like.

And then there is stuff we done!

From one colab to another!!!

Before you say, not another collaboration blog, hold your horses ... This could be the years best fashion partnership ... If it is more than a fashion urban myth!!!

Mary Katrantzou for Moncler! Yes our favourite outerwear designer is teaming up with the lady with the best prints in the business. I am tres excited already! (And already saving for my winter coat 2013)

The only thing is ... I cannot find any clues about the collection... I have been in touch with both press offices to no avail and google is giving me nothing. The only clues I have are these two photographs I have found on Instagram from a Moncler assistant!

As you can see its a little Oilily but that ain't a bad thing ... I think they are FAB. It will also be nice to see the bootleggers in Manchester try and copy these babies... The site of all these blag Moncler Jackets and bobble hats bouncing round Liverpool gives me fashion ulcers! Get a grip people ... If you can't afford the real thing buy a cheaper alternative! Not a fake one!

Anyway .. I hope this one is more than a myth ... I want the blue peplum one toooo much! Keep those stylish fingers crossed!

Oh how I wish I was American!

Well I don't really wish I was American all the time, just on occasions like this one! Oh and when its New York fashion week and when I'm watching Man v Food with the other half !  One of my favourite designers from our neighbour over the Atlantic Prabal Gurung has brought out a collection for Target (an American discount store similar to our big supermarket chains).  Now we all know how I like a good collaboration .. god knows how I have gone on about many a H&M designer collection but this one is SPECIAL!  The collection features lots of labels signature prints and graphic detailing and is a total nod to Prabal's main 2013 spring summer collection but less then a quarter of the price. The inspiration for the 2013 spring/summer collection was taken from artist Amish Kappor (the man behind the Olympic sculpture - The Orbit), however Prabal explained in an interview published on Targets blog - A Bulls Eye View that the collection for Target was however, inspired by a girls journey through the different stages of love and the clothes she wears at each milestone - from the first date to meeting the parents and the engagement.

The collection is due out on the 10th February but unfortunately Target do not ship internationally so the only way your getting you hands on these babies is if you have trip to the US booked in the near future or you have relatives there who may very generously get you some shipped over.  If you find someone let me know!

What's your Jacket? Margiela!

Well Kanye it might just be. Mason Martin Margiela hits H&M on the 15th of November and I can't wait! Apparently all the pieces have been selected from the houses archive and each contain a label inside detailing what year the piece was originally produced. There are all the favourites and then some, billowing, voluminous dresses and coats, tailored trousers and beautiful simplistic accessories.

Here is my pick of the collection .... I just hope they stock it in Liverpool!

Ascot... Dress Code My A***!

Well its that time of year again and Ascot is well under way.  This year however the powers that be have instructed all those in attendance to adhere to a 'dress code'  to avoid any chavtastic outfits from ruining the queens diamond jubilee celebrations and photographs (ma'am can't abide cleveage or mini's apparantly).  After reading the rules and regulations for attire on Ascots official website I thought that when the first pictures of race goers appeared on Tuesday afternoon I would see plenty of well dressed ladies in knee length hems, fabulous hats (ma'am can't abide fasinators either.... all hats in the royal stand need to have a base of at least 4 inches) and demure necklines.  How wrong was I! Never let it be said that the girls of Aintree (SOME!) are the worst dressed racegoers in the country.... our sisters down south have definitly gave the most undesirable of Aintree attendees a run for their money!  It must be said there were some lovely ladies wearing some Fabulous ensembles but there were also some absolute shockers, including a pack of lap dancers advertising their local 'gentlemans club' called Tantric Blue! Take heed The Daily Mail..... us Northerners are definitly not the chaviest of them all!

So what would a stylish scouser wear to Royal Ascot?? Here are three looks that not only adhere to the dress code, but also tick the boxes of some of Spring and Summers 2012's hottest looks.
Look 1: Jonathan Saunders dress from Net a Porter.Com, Miu Miu courts and Miu Miu clutch from MyTheresa.Com, French Connection Bracelet from Asos and Wide Brimmed Hat with scattered blossom from Piers Atkinson's Racegoers Collection (see website for stockists)

Look 2: Micheal Van Der Ham dress from Net a Porter.Com, Fendi Shoes from MyTheresa.Com, Africa Print clutch from Topshop, Tortoise Shell Watch - Micheal Kors from Asos and Into the Jungle Hat from Piers Atkinson's Archive (see website for stockists)

Look 3: Jonathan Saunders dress from Net a Porter.Com, Alexander Wang Clutch and Jimmy Choo kitten courts from MyTheresa.Com, Ring and Bracelett from Topshop and

When Art meets Fashion - Tate Liverpool

One of the things you will be seeing more of on discofashionartsugar is art posts.  I love fashion and music so much that sometimes I forget that the blog is about so much more.  That is why I have decided that for my first post back I will share with you my visit to the Tate Liverpool a couple of months ago.  I was on my way to see the Rene Magritte exhibition and discovered it had finished a couple of days earlier #fail but instead of leaving I decided to take a look at the free exhibitions.  That’s when I stumbled across the ‘This is Sculpture’ exhibition, part of the DLA Piper Series.

The exhibition is an innovative look at the history of modern and contemporary sculpture and extremely cool. Various types of sculptures share a space with paintings, video, photography, language and performance.

A lovely surprise also occurred when I discovered that two of the sections had been curated by  Phillip Tracey and Marianne Faithfull whose personal take on sculpture and art in general was amazing and a rare insight into their artistic practice.  As a fashion lover, the chance to see Tracey’s vast collection of block shapers was A to the Mazing and at times a little euphoric! These blocks are created by a Paris based block shaper who transform Tracey’s hand made three dimensional maquettes made of woven wood and cotton called ‘Sparterie’ into usable blocks.  Every hat Phillip Tracey makes are created using these blocks.

The exhibition is definitely worth a visit and a must for Liverpool fashion lovers.  It is running until 30th of June.
